Most business finance isn't regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Lending to limited companies, and most business loans over £25,000, is unregulated credit, which doesn't carry the same protections as consumer credit. Our credit broking is regulated, though: bizbritain is authorised by the FCA, firm reference number 727207.
What's regulated
- Our service: credit broking is a regulated activity.
- Smaller loans to individuals: lending of £25,000 or less to sole traders and small partnerships is regulated consumer credit. We arrange that through Start Up Loans. See Can a sole trader get a business growth loan?.
What usually isn't
- lending to limited companies and LLPs
- business lending over £25,000
- most merchant cash advances

The Financial Ombudsman Service
If you're not satisfied with a final response, or 8 weeks have passed, you may be able to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. It can consider complaints from smaller businesses, broadly those with an annual turnover under £6.5 million and either fewer than 50 employees or a balance sheet under £5 million.
