You need at least 12 months of trading history for a business growth loan. Two years is preferred for unsecured lending, because lenders can see a full picture of how the business performs.
Why trading history matters
Lenders lend against the cash flow that will repay them. A longer track record shows them how your business performs through the seasons, and it usually means better pricing. Two clean years of accounts carry more weight than one strong quarter.
Less than 12 months?
Growth finance isn't available yet. Two options:
- A Start Up Loan. Open to businesses that are pre-launch or trading for up to 60 months, from £500 to £25,000 per person. See Start Up Loan eligibility.
- Come back later. Once you have 12 months of trading and accounts to show, talk to us again.
Between one and two years?
You can apply. Unsecured options are more limited at this stage, so security or a different type of finance may open more doors. Your advisor will show you which.
