Is it right for you?
Dext is worth considering when collecting the paperwork takes more effort than recording the transaction. Receipts and supplier invoices often arrive through several routes, while the accounts need a consistent record. Dext focuses on capturing those documents and extracting details so they can be reviewed and passed into an accounting workflow.
We see it as a practical companion to accounting software for a business with regular paperwork or several people making purchases. Agree how documents will be submitted, who will check the extracted information and when items will be sent to the accounts. Try a varied sample of your own receipts and invoices, including the awkward ones, before deciding that the process works for you.
It is less compelling if you only handle a handful of documents and already have a reliable routine. It also needs to connect to the accounting system and process you use. Automated capture should still have a human checking important details and resolving duplicates. Review the current plan, supported integration and approval options with your bookkeeper so the tool removes a real bottleneck instead of creating a second inbox to manage.
