After completion, there are some practical steps to finish the deal properly, and some ongoing commitments to your lender and the seller.

Straight after completion

  • Stamp duty: pay any stamp duty on a share purchase, or property tax on property. See Is there stamp duty when you buy a business?.
  • Companies House: update the directors and people with significant control.
  • Security: the lender's charges are registered at Companies House within 21 days, usually by the lender's solicitors.
  • VAT: if the deal was a transfer of a going concern, sort out the VAT registration. See Is there VAT on buying a business? Transfer of a going concern.
  • Banking and contracts: update bank mandates, insurance, and any contracts or licences that need your details.
