There's no single rule. Lenders usually expect you to put in some of your own money. How much depends on the brand, the costs, your experience and the security available.
What lenders often look for
Some bank franchise teams fund up to 70% of the approved costs of a franchise. That means you'd provide the rest yourself. Newer or less proven brands may need a bigger contribution.
What decides your figure
- The brand: an established franchise with a proven track record is usually seen as lower risk.
- The total cost: see What does a franchise cost in total?.
- Your experience and your personal finances.
- Security: what you can offer, if anything.
- The route: a Start Up Loan doesn't require security or a set contribution, but you must pass its credit and affordability checks. See Can I use a Start Up Loan for a franchise?.
