Often through asset finance. The van or equipment itself secures the finance, so you may need less of your own money than with an unsecured loan. We can help you arrange it alongside the rest of your franchise finance.

The main types

  • Hire purchase: you pay in instalments and own the asset at the end.
  • Leasing: you pay to use the asset and usually hand it back, or upgrade it, at the end.

Things to check

  • The franchisor's specification: many brands set the van type, livery or equipment you must use.
  • Franchisor supplier deals: some franchisors have arrangements with vehicle or equipment suppliers. Compare the finance terms with other options.
  • VAT: on hire purchase, VAT on the asset's price is usually paid at the start. If you're VAT-registered, you may be able to reclaim it. See Is there VAT on franchise fees?.
  • The term: make sure the finance ends before, or with, your franchise agreement.

Combining it with other finance

Asset finance can sit alongside a Start Up Loan or a business loan. Lenders look at all your repayments together. See Can I combine a Start Up Loan with other franchise finance?.
