Not under the Growth Guarantee Scheme: a GGS lender can't take your main home as security. On other lending, a lender may ask for a charge over property, either as security for the loan or to back a personal guarantee. You'll always know before you sign.
When a home might be involved
- Secured lending: some facilities are secured on property, which can include a home.
- Personal guarantees: some guarantees are backed by a charge over the guarantor's property. The amount, scope and any property charge vary by lender. See Will I have to give a personal guarantee?.
What to check
- whether any charge over a home is part of the offer, and what it secures
- whether the charge, or the guarantee behind it, is capped
- what would allow the lender to enforce it
- whether anyone else lives in or owns the home
Get independent legal advice
Before agreeing to any charge over your home, take independent legal advice. If others own the home with you, they'll usually need advice too.
Options without a home charge
If you'd rather not offer your home, ask us about alternatives, such as a GGS facility, asset finance secured on the asset itself, or a smaller facility.
