The accountancy organisation, AAT has recently launched an e-learning product to help business owners and the self-employed improve their knowledge of finance.
The product complements the existing AAT Access qualification which gives the learner basic accountancy and finance skills.
AAT claim that with the addition of their e-learning product, they will adopt a blended learning approach to support students inside and outside the classroom. In practice, this means what students learn face-to-face is complemented by e-learning materials, which they can use in their own time. These can be accessed online, 24/7 so students can study at their own pace.
Sian Chalk, a 25 year old aspiring entrepreneur from North Yorkshire who previously studied with AAT was quick to tell us about the how she saw the qualification as a route into being her own boss:
I started working as a chef in a local cafe after school but quickly realised that it wasn’t a career that I could pursue forever.
When thinking about my future, I always pictured myself being an independent and successful business woman. I wanted to do some form of training that would set me up for this type of career so I enrolled in AAT Access. One of the best things about the course is that was open to everyone and anyone and wouldn’t leave me with years of debt to pay off.
I studied at college one day a week and enjoyed it so much that I progressed on to the AAT Accounting Qualification. I’ve completed Level 2 and am on track to become a fully qualified accounting technician within the next two years.
My dream is to set up my own accounting solutions business giving advice to small businesses. AAT Access helped set me on this path and gave me the tools to pursue this dream. I’d encourage anyone considering a career in finance to do the same.
Commenting on the launch of the AAT Access e-learning product, AAT Product Development Manager Theo Ege said: AAT Access gives you a basic introduction to the role of finance and accounting when starting up your own business.
It’s flexible, interactive and can be done at a time and place that suits you.
Whether you are looking to develop an appreciation for your business finances or simply pick up some new accounting techniques, the course will give business start-ups the confidence, understanding and skills to succeed.
The e-learning materials contain a diagnostic tool, allowing learners to track their progress and focus on areas they may find more difficult. This helps learners gain confidence throughout the course and increases their chances of passing.
Currently the qualification is delivered via AAT accredited training providers, who offer a variety of options including online, distance, part-time and full-time.
